Mexican Immigration to the US

Hello world,

This time, I think I'll get a lot of comments coming in because this topic is very controversial: immigration. As everybody in North America knows, there is an enormous flow of Mexican people that cross the US border to find better life conditions in the United States. This has been true since the 1950's, so it's not new that you see the Southwest part of USA with an important Mexican or Mexican-American population.

The stats will tell you that there's about 15-20 million from Mexico in the US, most of them in states like Arizona, Texas, New York, New Mexico, and California. If you think about it, the implications of this are that Mexicans are influenced by Americans, and vice versa. This phenomenon is causing a blend of cultures in the border region, a new Chicano citizen.

Chicanos are a blend of American values and Mexican pride. They speak English, Spanish, and/or Spanglish, and are one of the largest minorities in the US. I think history has been unfair to Chicanos, because I've learned that they are a part of Mexico, just like they are a part of America, and they are proud to be like this. But I think because politics and the media broke into the discussion of immigration, now it's a different picture.

I can't see if immigration is positive or negative because there's no evidence of one thing or the other. I would just say it's a reality and one of the facts of Mexico and North America.

I'll be commenting on this very soon, because it's a neverending topic.

Lou
