The Aztecs In Perspective

Not many people know that the origin of the Aztecs has been discovered to be  in the western state of Nayarit. They were called Mexicas (that's where the word Mexico comes from), a small community of fishermen and hunters.

It was a great journey to reach Mexico City in 1325, because the Aztecs were a nomad tribe before. But they felt safe in the city, they thought it was a strategic place to establish their colony. From this place, the Aztecs formed coalitions with other tribes, expanding their dominion over the peoples of the center of Mexico.

If you go to Mexico City, you'll be able to experience all of the Aztec history. Some people have judged this civilization as a heard of assassins, due to the human sacrifices they practiced to please their gods, but that's just part of the story. This great civilization studied the stars and built pyramids to praise their gods, and of course, the Aztec calendar was a remarkable demonstration of astronomy.

For about 200 years the Aztec empire ruled in Mexico, until 1519, when the Spaniards started a war against them.
